What Stocks to Buy for Windmill Production

    Denmark

    • Denmark is your first pick when looking for wind turbine energy stocks. The Centre for Electric Technology estimates that the island of Bornholm, Denmark, creates 30 percent of its energy via wind power, with regular upgrades planned. Such accomplishments are due to government subsidies and private industry innovation, but also to Denmark's citizens, who wholeheartedly support the effort. LM Glasfiber produces windmill blades and is committed to decreasing the costs of wind production as its market share is growing. LM Glasfiber is just one example among hundreds of members of The Danish Wind Industry Association (see Resources section).

    China

    • A monster of a company in China is China Longyuan Power Group Corp Ltd. As reported in Reuters, it is the biggest producer of wind products in Asia and is growing. It is now raising more than two billion dollars for expansion. Part of the reason that Chinese companies like Longyuan are expanding is China's reliance on high pollutant-producing coal. While coal is cheap in terms of dollars, China's government planners see it as too inefficient and polluting for the long term. As in Denmark, China's government and private industries are coordinating to strengthen the industry. The Chinese Wind Energy Association maintains a list of Chinese wind energy producers (see Resources section).

    United States

    • American companies are also making strides in wind energy. A long-time producer of windmills is GE Energy, which has been in the business for 20 years. The company has more than 10,000 wind installations around the world and is growing. It is also exploiting the Asian market, competing well with companies like Longyuan Power Group. A long list of American companies engaged in the wind power industry is available from the American Wind Energy Association (see Resources section). The list is free, and the organization's website provides a guest password to access the information.
