Is Carafate Used for Acid Reflux?
- Upset stomach, nausea, constipation and gas have been reported as side effects to Carafate. Allergic reactions may also occur with this medication.
- This medication may interact with some antacids as well as some medications such as cimetidine, digoxin, thyroid medications and some antibiotics.
- This medication is given in the form of a pill and must be taken two to four times a day and at least one hour before eating.
- Carafate could take from four to eight weeks to heal your ulcer, so contact your doctor before you discontinue using it.
- Let your doctor know if you have allergic reactions to this medication or if you have kidney problems. This medication contains aluminum, which is normally removed from your body by the kidneys.
