Natural Treatment for Acid Reflux

Acid reflux is when the acid from your stomach goes up the esophagus, creating some pain or burning sensation in the chest.
This is also known as heartburn.
Commonly, sufferers of this condition would reach out for antacids because the drugs can provide immediate relief.
However, natural treatment is also available for the heartburn.
A growing number of people are starting to opt for natural cures because of many reasons.
For one, they are a lot more affordable.
In fact, some of them can even come for free.
With the current status of the economy, everyone wants to save up as much as possible.
Another reason why going natural is better is because it's safer.
Let's take for instance, the use of antacids for heartburn.
While it is true that these medications can block the acid from the stomach, it can also block the normal flow of nutrient absorption in the body.
When this happens, the person may suffer from indigestion and other problems in the process.
You see, before your body can break the proteins into useful amino acids, it needs sufficient amount of stomach acid! Without it, the digestive process may slow down or become inefficient.
Apart from hindering the process of digestion, using antacids for acid reflux can also bring other side effects.
If you didn't know yet, there are a bunch of over-the-counter (or even prescription) drugs for heartburn which have compounds that may cause ugly side effects.
Here's a quick list:
  • Aluminum compounds - These compounds are known to cause constipation.
  • Magnesium compounds - May trigger diarrhea.
  • Calcium bicarbonate - May encourage the stomach to produce more acid once the effect of the drug wear off.
  • Sodium bicarbonate - Can cause gas (flatulence) and bloating.
Other more serious side effects may come in using heartburn medications.
For example, there have been reports of muscle spasms, insomnia, and hallucinations after taking some of these drugs.
Clearly, going for antacids is not the best way to deal with acid reflux and its symptoms.
If you want relief from the condition without suffering from these awful side effects, the best way is to go natural.
Steer clear from food triggers like greasy, hot, and spicy ingredients.
You should also limit your intake of anything acidic such as citrus fruits and tomatoes.
Finally, you should stop eating too fast.
Chewing your food well can help you eliminate any problems down the line.
