I've never understood the culture of going out for a curry when anyone with an ounce of kitchen skills can make the same delicious curry at home, and drink beer for less than half the outrageous prices that curry houses will charge.
And you have things like a PlayStation 3 at home too, perfect for a lads curry night-in! I think it's about time we changed this ridiculous culture of eating out, and learnt how to cook properly instead.
C'mon, lads! Chapatti's We're going to make the dough for the Chapatti's first since it needs to be chilled a while.
You'll need: - 1/2kg of whole grain flour - 1/2kg of baking flour - 1 tablespoon of yeast - Pinch of salt - Enough water Mix the flours with the salt and yeast in a big bowl, adding water slowly and gradually until the dough is formed.
Knead it for about 15 minutes then refrigerate.
For the Curry Gather your materials: - 2 tablespoons of oil (the expensive stuff your wife hides in the cupboard will work just fine) - 1 minced clove of garlic - 1 tablespoon of grated ginger - 1 tablespoon of chilli powder - 1 tablespoon turmeric - 1/2 tablespoon of cumin - 1/2 kg of chicken - 250g mushrooms - 1/2 kg of potatoes - 1 1/2 cups fresh peas - 2 minced potatoes - 4 eggs - 1 medium onion Preparation: Luckily, the hardest bit was gathering the materials, so give yourself a pat on the back if you managed to gather all that correctly.
Let's start by mashing and mincing and chopping stuff.
The onion needs to be peeled, and diced really small.
The garlic needs to be peeled and minced - crush it under a the flat side of a big knife then chop it up small if you don't have a mincer.
the potatoes will also need to be washed and diced however big you want them.
Oh, and hard-boil the eggs now, as you'll need to peel the shells of them before adding it to the curry too, obviously.
Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces and grate the ginger if you haven't already.
If your friends haven't brought any beer round then now would be a good time to send them on a beer run.
When you're ready cook it all, add the oil to a big pan and fry the onion and chicken until it's a little brown, then add in the tomato, garlic, and ginger.
Add the chilli, turmeric, and cumin, mushrooms, potatoes, salt, and peas (everything else apart from the eggs basically).
Add in a cup of water of two and cover the pan, cooking for another half hour.
Be sure sure to add more water if it drops too much.
Feel free to taste and add more spices if you want.
Get on with the chapattis while that's cooking, they're easy.
The hardboiled eggs will be added when you serve, by the way.
Take the chapatti dough out of the fridge and break off little balls.
Roll them out with a rolling pin and fry for 3 minutes each.
If you've made too much then you can store the remainder of the dough in a bag and freeze it.
Serve, and enjoy!
