Ripstick Tricks
- The basic starting point for almost any board-related sport is the manual. These are slightly harder to execute on the Ripstik because of its two-wheel design and therefore may take many hours of practice to perfect.
The first manual trick to learn is a Manual. While riding forward in a straight line, move your weight onto the back of the Ripstik to lift the front wheel off the ground. See how long you can hold the nose of the board in the air before putting it back down.
A Nose Manual is similar to a Manual. Instead of moving your weight backward and lifting the nose of the board, scoot your front foot forward and lean on the nose. The back wheel should come up off the ground. It is much harder to balance on the front wheel, so it requires practice. - Flip tricks involve separating yourself from the Ripstik and allowing it to "flip" or spin in the air beneath you. To perform a flip trick you will need to first learn how to ollie.
To perform an ollie, while rolling in a straight line, move your back foot to the tail of the board and your front foot to the rear of the front platform. Push down on the tail so it slaps the ground. Simultaneously jump up and move your front foot forward to level out the Ripsitk.
To perform flip tricks, get in position to perform an ollie. When jumping, instead of simply sliding your foot forward on the board, slide it out to the right or left, pushing the board in that direction. The board will flip in the air. Try your best to land and ride away.
Be creative as these tricks have many possible variations. - A Ripstik's two-platform design makes grinding on a Ripstik easier than on a regular skateboard, but the rider is limited to rails smaller than 2 inches in diameter. To perform a grind, you will make use of the ollie.
Roll alongside a rail in the direction in which you're going to grind. Get in position to ollie. When you jump up after slapping the tail on the ground, twist your shoulders perpendicular to the ramp and try to land on the center of the grinding surface. The Ripstik will slide along the rail. When you get to the end of the rail, twist the board back into line and continue rolling when you hit the ground. - Performing tricks on a Ripstik, while fun and rewarding, can be dangerous. Wear a helmet at all times, and only perform tricks that are within the bounds of your riding ability.
