How to Access the Panel on a Sump Pump
- 1). Remove the cover to your sump pit. Materials vary but its typically wood or plastic and lifts off.
- 2). Shut off your sump pump. Most pumps have a switch on the side or the top.
- 3). Unplug the sump pump from its power source. Some pumps may have a power box; switch off the box or unplug the device. Put on a pair of gloves before touching the pump.
- 4). Lift the pump out of the drainage pit with both hands around the top of the device. Never lift the pump up by the cord. Shine a flashlight into the hole if it's too dark to see the pump.
- 5). Locate the panel on the side or the front of the pump. It is a square box. Unscrew with a screwdriver if necessary; it should slide off in some models. Clean off the small section marked "sensor" with your hand if there's debris built up or the pump has quit working.
