How to Fix a Rusted Fan
- 1). Unplug the fan from the wall.
- 2). Apply some of the rust-removing product -- or lemon juice or soda -- to the area of the fan where the center of the blade mechanism spins around the motor. Try to apply the product so that gravity will cause it to flow through the rusted area.
- 3). Tap the blade mechanism with a hammer. This will shock the area and help the product to flow easier. Wait a few minutes for the product to loosen up the rust.
- 4). Try to turn the fan blades with your hands. If the fan blades still will not turn, apply more product and tap the area with the hammer again.
- 5). Rotate the fan blades by hand several times to continue loosening the rust. Apply some lubricating oil to the same area you applied the rust-removing product. This will keep the fan lubricated and less prone to rusting in the future.
