How Can I Make My Fireplace Brick Shiny?
- 1). Combine 1 tbsp. of dish washing soap and water. Dip a scrub brush into the mixture and scrub the brick to remove all dirt. Scrub the mortar with a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove stains.
- 2). Dip a sponge into clean water and wipe away soap residue from the brick wall. Allow the brick to dry for at least four hours.
- 3). Apply chemical paver stripper to the brick with a paint roller. Roll on a thick coat of the chemical and let it penetrate any existing sealant for 10 to 20 minutes.
- 4). Scrub the bricks again with the soapy water to remove the chemical residue and the existing sealant.
- 5). Allow the wall to dry for two to three days so the wall is completely free of moisture.
- 6). Apply a brick sealer with a new, clean roller. Roll on the sealer in a thin, even coat. Let the first coat dry for four hours. Apply a second coat. Let the final coat dry overnight before using the fireplace.
