• The Las Vegas Motor Speedway opened its gates in 1998, as Mark Martin became the first NASCAR Cup driver to win at the 1.5-mile venue. Since NASCAR introduced the track to the schedule, it quickly emerged into a crowd favorite, as the races typically fill the 142,000 capacity grandstands. Sprint Cup Racing

• The Las Vegas Motor Speedway hosts one NASCAR Sprint Cup race per season, usually in late February or early March. This is the premier event held at the facility owned and operated by Speedway Motorsports, Inc. (SMI). It is a 400-mile, 267-lap endurance race featuring 43 of the greatest stock car drivers in the world. Barring inclement weather, the race is on Sunday. Nationwide Series Racing

• The NASCAR Nationwide Series visits the Las Vegas track once a year. In fact, the series shares the race weekend with the Sprint Cup field. This race is a 300-mile, 200-lap race with 43 competitors. The Nationwide Series event is held on the Saturday prior to the Sprint Cup race, unless inclement weather forces a postponement. Truck Racing

• The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series also spends an annual weekend at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This race, however, does not fall into the same weekend as the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series races. It is a standalone race held in late September. The truck race is held at night, which allows fans a Saturday night under the lights atmosphere. It is a 350-kilometer, 146-lap event featuring a field of 36 drivers. Fall Classic

• The track features several events in November known as the Open Comp Fall Classic. Included in the weekend's events are a 200-lap Super Late Model race, a Lucas Oil Modified 75-lap race, USAC heat races and a 35-lap feature race, a 100-lap Late Model race, a 35-lap Legend race, and a Bandolero feature race. Other Events

• NASCAR is not the only show in town for the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The NHRA holds drag races at the facility's drag strip throughout the year. In fact, every other Wednesday night, the drag strip features a drag racing event. The United States Legends points championship race is held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Bullring in September.
