  Venturer Scouts are in a dynamic age group--14 to 17--and are usually eager to tackle projects. It is important to choose woodworking projects to both interest the Venturers and fit within their appropriate skill set. The program aims to promote self-confidence and leadership skills which blends well with woodworking. Remember to exercise and promote caution when using power tools.
  
  

Bird House

• A birdhouse is a sound choice for a beginner's woodworking project, and takes only a few hours to complete. The project requires only two tools, a drill and a jigsaw. Either guide the Venturers to cut each piece and assemble it according to instructions or cut the pieces ahead of time and let the teens do the assembly. Finishing can be left to the Venturers. Provide options for stains and paints and allow each kid to choose how to finish the birdhouse.
  
  

Bench

• Building a bench is a a quick woodworking project to boost any Venture'rs confidence. The bench can be stained or painted like the rest of the projects and can be placed indoors or outside in the garden. The benches can be used to hold potted plants. Tools to be used in a bench project include a drill, a band saw or joiner, clamps and a hand saw, but will vary depending on the design chosen. Adults could have the pieces cut in advance and ready for assembly, or the scouts can do the entire project with help and supervision.
  
  

Box

• Simple plans for amateur woodworking come in a range of styles and types when it comes to boxes. Choose from planter boxes for the garden or smaller boxes to hold things like jewelry, or anything special to a scout. Plans can be found online. When the boxes are assembled the Venturers can continue to decorate the boxes and embellish them. Homemade boxes make a perfect gift on their own or with a little something inside.
  
  

Spice Rack

• A spice rack is another project the Venturers can tackle and complete. Break the project into steps and the teens will be able to follow along. The scouts should be able to finish the project in the allotted time and if this means modifying the plans or completing it over two sessions, work it out accordingly. Spice racks also make a great gift for parents or relatives. Encourage the scouts to personalize the project with paint or stain.
