Anyone who seriously commits to trying to build muscle is immediately confronted with some very big questions.
Finding the answers to these questions is one of the main reasons why so many people lose interest and stop training before noticing any real results.
If you are serious about building noticeable amounts of muscle, then you need to get expert advice and then follow that advice.
You could enlist the help of a personal trainer, buy a respected program online or do some research yourself.
The most common mistakes made by those who want to build muscle are:-
  • Being sold on the promises of supplement companies.
    These companies know exactly which emotional buttons to press to get you to part with your hard earned cash, but unfortunately aren't as reliable when it comes to producing the results you are expecting.
    You don't need to take supplements to build muscle, although what you read in their advertisements will convince you otherwise.
  • Listening to too many different people that don't have the experience or qualifications to guide you correctly.
    You really can't take the advice of a fellow gym user and expect to get in the shape of Mr Olympia, it just won't happen.
    Follow an expert's advice instead.
  • Not working hard enough in the gym is another real mistake.
    If you aren't working to the right intensity, doing the correct amount of sets and repetitions then you may never achieve your goals and end up quitting long before you have seen any real progress.
  • Working too hard.
    The opposite can happen if you do too much, you will quickly end up spinning your wheels and not making any progress at all or worse still overtraining which will send the gains you have made quickly down the road.
  • Not eating to support muscle growth is one of the biggest mistakes you can make.
    If you don't eat enough of the right types of foods, mainly low fat proteins and starchy carbohydrates then you can't possibly expect to build muscle.
    They need these nutrients for repair otherwise they can't get any bigger.
    It is a bit like building a house out of water and straw, you just don't have the right ingredients.
Anyone that wants to build muscle and change their body shape is faced with many challenges, many of which can be eliminated by following the advice of someone who knows the facts.
You can save yourself many years of trial and error by simply getting the information you need before you start.
