    • 1). Put on work gloves, and eye goggles. Wrap the chain of a snap cutter around the pipe on the straight section just below the bell on the end of the cast iron pipe.

    • 2). Open the snap cutter's handles. Pull the chain taut around the pipe, and slot the closest chain link onto the hook on the end of one of the snap cutter's handles -- make sure the chain is positioned perpendicular to the pipe.

    • 3). Squeeze the snap cutter's handles quickly together, to create a clean straight cut through the cast iron pipe.

    • 4). Position the snap cutter's chain around the spigot end of the pipe entering into the bell, and follow the same process to cut through the pipe. Discard the bell/spigot joint.
