The Best Method of Cutting Apart Zoysia Plugs
- 1). Moisten and rake soil to prepare it. Press the sod plugger firmly into the soil. The tool will give you a soil "core," leaving a hole exactly the right size and depth for the plug. Remove the core by tapping the tool until it comes out. Dig holes 12 inches apart.
- 2). Water the sod thoroughly until it's moist all the way through. Starting at the corner of the zoysia sod, press down hard with the tool to cut a 3-square-inch plug. The sharp edge of the tool will cut through the sod, causing minimal damage to the plug.
- 3). Pull the zoysia plug out of the sod plugger with your fingers, and plant it immediately. Press the plug firmly into the hole and step on it lightly to ensure strong contact of roots with soil.
- 4). Continue cutting and plugging until all the holes are filled. Water daily for the next three weeks to help the plugs establish roots and spread.
