How Long Is an Investigation on a New Jersey EEOC Complaint?
- Once an EEOC complaint has been appropriately filed with a New Jersey state EEO/AA officer, the investigative process will commence by the agency. A final report can be written within 100 days of filing the complaint. If more time is necessary to complete the investigation, the case investigator must notify the complainant in writing.
- In New Jersey, a legitimate EEOC complainant can be any job applicant, employee or even an individual who is doing business with a state agency, department, college or commission if alleged harassment or discrimination has taken place. You can file a complaint with both the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and/or the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights, according to the New Jersey Office of Workforce Development.
- If you have been a victim of harassment or discrimination, report this conduct immediately to either a supervisor or the EEO/AA officer in the office or location where the suspected illegal conduct happened. Immediacy in reporting will allow the investigating officer to obtain fresh -- and relevant -- documentation and statements.
