    Naturalization

    • 1). Pick up an application form and document checklist at the police department (Criminal Investigation Division Group 1, Subdivision 3) located in Bangkok at Rama I Road. You must go in person to retrieve the form.

    • 2). Complete the necessary requirements. It is required that the applicant have spent at least five years of legal residency in Bangkok and have a sufficient grasp of the Thai language. Character assessment is also a factor in eligibility; the applicant must be of good character and be able to present two witnesses to testify such on his behalf.

    • 3). Gather the required documents. These include: five copies each of your passport, a document verifying your Thai address, work permit, house registration, marriage registration translated into Thai (if applicable), two copies of your ID card, two copies of the house registrations of the witnesses who will vouch for your character, copies of birth certificates of wife and children (if applicable), three full years of income tax documents, two documents verifying employment status including salary, position and authoritative signature, two documents verifying educational background, a copy of your most recent bank statement (must contain at least 80,000 baht), a record (spanning the five years of residency) of charitable donations (5,000 baht is the minimum), 12 passport-size photographs, originals of everything listed above and the 5,000 baht application fee.

    • 4). Submit all documents to Criminal Investigation Division Group I, Subdivision 3, Police Department, Rama I Road, Bangkok. Take your two witnesses with you, submit a fingerprint scan and wait for approval.

    • 5). Sit through interviews (following approval) in a series of multiple visits that include document interviews, a language test interview, recital of the Thai National Anthem, a personal question interview and take the oath of allegiance to the king. The interviews will be spread over a processing time anywhere from 2 to 3 years.

    Citizenship Through Birth

    • 1). Gather the necessary documents to report a birth/claim Thai birth certificate. These documents include: two copies of the child's birth certificate translated into Thai and legalized by the Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the country of your residency, two copies of the marriage certificates of child's parents, two copies of both the mother and father's passports, two copies of identity and one photo of the child.

    • 2). Submit all documents to the Royal Thai Embassy in the country of the child's birth.

    • 3). Wait five business days to receive approval and issuance of the birth certificate.
