The Best Garden Tiller For The Upcoming Season
I know it's only February however being that we've had such a mild winter so far I'm really starting to think of gardening again and one of the first things I'll need to do is get out my Mantis Tiller and get it ready for the season. If you've never used a Mantis Tiller I have to tell you that it's probably one of the best investments I've made in outdoor power equipment in some time. The Mantis is so useful for so many things and is well worth the price. So lets talk about what it's good for and what it's not good for in your own garden.
First off, my garden is not huge by any means. It's roughly about 30' long by 6' wide so it's relatively small but just enough for our family of four. The Mantis is perfectly sized for a garden like this as it's small and compact yet it does the job that many larger tillers that my neighbors own and then some. The Mantis easily breaks through the ground and makes the soil well prepared for anything I'll need to plant. It also does great work grinding up weeds and other plant material which is actually superb for your soil. So if you have a smaller home garden like mine (or even smaller), the Mantis is perfectly suited for you as well.
Outside of being a great gas powered tiller, the Mantis also has the ability to change out the tiller attachment for things like a dethatching tool for your lawn, an aerator for your lawn soil, a plow/planter for your garden and a crevice cleaner for sidewalks and driveways. Personally I've found the dethatching tool to be invaluable for pulling up the dead grass late in the summer so that my lawn can grow thick and green. Then towards Fall I'm able to quickly and easily change out the dethatching attachment for the aerator that makes quick work of cutting into the soil so that more water and air is absorbed making my lawn strong and ready for winter. You can literally change out the attachments in a matter of minutes so the Mantis is definitely a useful tool that is very easy to use, even for the novice.
Although the price is a bit more than your lawnmower, it again is probably the second most used garden tool I have in my shed. The 2-Cycle Mantis Tiller runs about $350 and the larger 4-Cycle Mantis runs just under $500 so they are definitely not cheap but you will get what you pay for here.
The bottom line is that most people looking for a tiller will want something that is lightweight, easy to use and that lasts a long time. I've had my Mantis Tiller for about 5 years now and I'm anxiously awaiting a great season number 6 where I know my Mantis will get the job done yet again. If you're in the market for a Tiller, definitely give the Mantis a look and you'll soon agree that it's the right tool for your garden to.
