Herbal Spider Repellent
- Peppermint is a hardy perennial herb that repels spiders, when it’s combined with neem oil. The herbal repellent requires mixing 1 oz. of neem oil with 1 to 5 drops of peppermint essential oil into 1qt. of water. The mixture is poured in a spray bottle and applied directly on the spiders.
- Eucalyptus is commonly known for its antifungal and antimicrobial properties, but the herb also repels spiders, since they find the herb’s sweet aroma toxic. The herbal spider repellent is made by mixing 8 oz. of water, 5 drops of eucalyptus oil and 5 drops of lavender oil in a spray bottle, which is sprayed on the spiders and their habitats to eliminate cobwebs.
- Lavender is an aromatic herb that is comprised of greenish-gray foliage and lavender-blue flowers. The herb repels spiders, since they deem lavender’s flower-like odor toxic. Lavender spider repellent is made by mixing 1 oz. of neem oil with 5 drops of lavender essential oil and 1 qt. of water. The mixture is poured into a spray bottle and applied where spiders roam. The lavender spider repellent is not applied on fabrics or light-colored furniture, since the essential oils may stain them.
- Citronella oil is found in the green and yellow leaves of the herb lemon balm. Citronella has long been used as an insect repellent and spider deterrent. The herbal repellent is made by mixing ½ oz. of citronella essential oil with 4 to 5 drops of eucalyptus oil in an 8 oz. spray bottle of water and is applied directly on the spiders.
