How to Clean With Products That Are Green to Our Environment
- 1). Mix an all-purpose spray cleaner in a large spray bottle by combining one-half cup white distilled vinegar with one teaspoon liquid soap, such as Dr. Bronner's, and two cups water. You can add three to five drops of essential oil for scent. This cleaner works well on all kitchen and bath surfaces, including the floor. The white vinegar acts as a disinfectant.
- 2). Make a creamy soft-scrubbing cleanser by combining one-half cup baking soda with just enough castile soap to form a paste. Use a scrub brush or sponge to scrub the area with the paste, then rinse well with water. If you prefer to scrub with a scouring powder, plain baking soda makes an excellent substitute for harsher commercial powders.
- 3). Use straight lemon juice on a rag as a simple de-greaser for cleaning up messes in the kitchen.
- 4). Mix two cups water with one-half teaspoon of castile soap in a spray bottle for cleaning spots on carpets and upholstery. Shake before each use. Spritz the area, then blot with a white rag or towel until the stain is removed. To remove odors from carpets, sprinkle plain baking soda around the area and let it sit for a few minutes, then vacuum.
- 5). Mix together one-quarter cup white distilled vinegar with one-quarter cup water and one-half teaspoon castile soap for an effective wood furniture polish. Add a few drops of jojoba or olive oil to moisturize the wood. Apply the mixture to the wood using a rag or sponge and clean in the direction of the grain. Go over the wood with a dry cloth to remove excess moisture.
- 6). Combine an equal amount of lemon juice and water in an atomizer and spray as needed for a simple, environmentally friendly air freshener. Keep the lemon juice mixture in the refrigerator when not in use.
