- 1). Using coupons for groceries begins with recognizing the types of food normally consumed in the home and the stores available for using the coupons in. Going to the store with a holder of coupons outdated or not accepted at the store you are shopping at won't save you money. Learn all you can about the types of coupons you are going to use and make sure the dates are still available on the coupons.
- 2). Make sure you have the weekly local newspaper to use as additional savings with the coupons. Even without the coupons money can be saved by checking out the savings from the local stores weekly discounts. The products may not be brand name but how many products come out of a brand name producer with another name on the labels.
- 3). Most larger Grocery companies have certain days of the week or month when discounts are given to senior citizens over a certain age. Krogers offer a 10% percent discount on each Wednesday of the month. Using coupons for certain products along with the store discount and if an additional sale is advertised in the weekly newspaper you have bought the product way below retail value. Senior discount + coupon + advertised discount. A word of caution on this is the refusal of the store to allow this much of a discount, if refused ask for the manager of the store to present your case to.
- 4). The internet has become perhaps the best place to obtain your coupons if you have access to a printer along with the computer. There are hundreds of sites out there such as coupons.com which I consider the best on the internet. Join or subscribe to newsletters to help bring coupons to your attention. One of the better websites for this is Freebies4mom.com. Usually a daily email with new coupons and ads will come from this website.
- 5). While at the store shopping make a list of all the larger food companies such as Pillsbury, Gerbers, and others you can find and once back home search the internet for each companies website. Usually these companies will advertise coupons on their own websites. Bookmark these sites as the coupons change often. Besides the coupons you get for free there are always instant sweepstakes and free sample products to be had from these companies.
- 6). Last one very important word of caution of using the internet for finding coupons. A lot of the sites will get you into filling out surveys which can be quite long and very demanding of personal information. I usually leave these sites as I have learned the hard way your email box will stay full of annoying emails asking for surveys or advertising products you know you don't want.
