    Protein

    • Bill Gottlieb, author of "Alternative Cures," recommends eating every two hours to avoid symptoms of aggression, nervousness, agitation and anxiety, which are common symptoms of ADD. Adding protein into every small meal can help keep these symptoms at bay.

    Sugar

    • Eliminating sugar in the diet and any refined carbohydrates, including white flour, can also keep blood sugar levels stable, thus reducing many of the symptoms of ADD.

    Vitamins and Minerals

    • Gottlieb recommends taking a multivitamin or mineral supplement that has the following nutrients: 25mg of thiamin, 100mg of vitamin B6, 50mg of pantothenic acid, 400mcg of folic acid, 15mg of beta-carotene, 1,000mg of vitamin C, 400iu of vitamin E, 500 to 1,000mg of calcium, 100 to 400mg of magnesium and 15mg of zinc. Adding an extra 500mg of magnesium will help calm symptoms of ADD, according to Gottlieb.

    Fatty Acids

    • Primrose oil and flaxseed oil are both rich in fatty acids, and are touted to help brain cells function better in ADD sufferers, according to Gottlieb. Five hundred milligrams of evening primrose oil and 3 tsp. of flaxseed oil daily is recommended.

    Warnings

    • Although natural remedies are used for the treatment of ADD in children and adults, none have been recommended by the Food and Drug Administration. All healthcare-related disorders should be monitored closely by a physician.
