Guide to the new MySpace 2.0 Layouts

The social network experience has evolved.  MySpace has recently switched it's "old" MySpace 1.0 layout style to a newly formatted, modern, MySpace 2.0 layouts style.  Users were first given the option between the two, but any new users to MySpace are actually required to use the 2.0 layout style at this point.  This switch has impacted the content development industry significantly as 1.0 layouts are formatted completely different than 2.0 and are not congruent.

The new MySpace 2.0 layouts feature several significant improvements.  Users are able to define their preferred width, choose from a number of pre-designed styles and layouts, and there is a greater focus on the more important aspects of a layout.  Despite their attempts, MySpace still has an extremely limited selection of MySpace 2.0 layout content, and so users are once again left to fend for themselves when it comes to custom CSS styling, backgrounds, and overall layout design.

There are a number of sites that have shifted from the 1.0 design to 2.0 layouts.  When MySpace launched, founder Tom Anderson posted an overview of the new layouts and also highlighted content sites that got on board with them early.  He specifically noted pYzam.com and their custom designed MySpace 2.0 Layouts.  pYzam was able to instantly convert thousands of designs, as well as have new custom designs made to cater to the 2.0 crowd.

Tom's recommendation is eye opening, as MySpace realizes (it seems) that there are many more things to be working on than the layout market, and that some solid partners in this area provide a better overall customization experience for the end user, even into the MySpace 2.0 layouts era.  There is a level of simplicity within the content sites as well.  For example on pYzam you simply find the code you want and follow a few simple instructions and you're profile is customized.  The new design is much more modern and appropriate, and thankfully it can be easily customized.  For more details check out MySpace.com and pYzam.com.
