How to Remove the Skunk Smell From a House

    • 1). Open all possible doors and windows because a fresh, strong breeze will go a long way toward flushing out the smell. Set up fans pointed out of the house to suck air from the space.

    • 2). Fill open-mouthed containers with clear vinegar, vanilla, ammonia or dry coffee grounds and set them in strategic places around the room to help clear, or at least mask, the smell. Place them out of the reach of pets and children. Spraying citrus-fragrance air freshener also will help.

    • 3). Set the washing machine to use lukewarm water, and fill the soap dispenser with laundry detergent. Add a de-greasing agent. Wash the effected clothes, drapes, rugs, sheets, etc., and hang them in a space with a strong air flow for as long as you can; days, even.

    • 4). Put on the rubber or latex gloves and the safety glasses, and place the bucket on a flat surface. Pour 32 oz. hydrogen peroxide, 1 tsp. liquid dish-washing soap and 1/2 cup of baking soda, and mix them with the wooden spoon. You also can pour in a solution of 1 part clear vinegar to 3 parts warm water.

    • 5). Dip the rags or sponge into the solution, then blot it onto the walls and the furniture. Let it sit for 10 minutes before wiping it off with a clean, water-dampened cloth. Wet the sponge mop with the same solution to clean the floor.
