Once your body burns through the available calories it has for movement, it will seek new resources which includes breaking down muscle tissue to use for energy.

Reducing your overall cardio while in a weight gain phase will help preserve your current body weight, while you try to add new muscle.
Adding New Muscle When you're under weight, you can become fixated on adding pounds without taking into consideration the type of weight you'll want to add.
You don't want to overcompensate and add twenty pounds of pure fat, because it can leave you feeling out of shape.
If you eat enough calories your body will have to increase it's body weight to compensate.
