How to Put Up Beadboard
- 1). Cut all of the pieces of beadboard to the required length. For most rooms, the height of beadboard should be set at approximately 34 inches. Place one length of beadboard vertically at the highest floor point along the length of the wall. Place a 4-foot spirit level across the top of the beadboard horizontally. Once an even position has been achieved, run a pencil along the underside of the level to mark the landing points of each piece of beadboard.
- 2). Use a miter saw to cut internal and external angles on enough pieces of beadboard so that all corners of the room are accounted for. Start with one piece of beadboard in one corner of the room and use the level to make sure it is plumb.
- 3). Mark down one side of the beadboard with a pencil. Add adhesive to the rear of the beadboard and stick it to the wall, using the pencil mark as a guide. Carry out a final check with the level before hammering in three small wall nails at the top, middle and bottom sections of the beadboard groves. These will be hidden when the beadboard is joined with the next piece.
- 4). Spread adhesive over the wall and begin to slide in new piece of beadboard individually, using the fixed corner section as a guide for slotting in new pieces before moving outwards along the wall. Remember to add three wall nails into the groves of each piece and continue along the wall until the next corner is reached. This section can be finished with one of the mitered pieces of beadboard which may need to be cut to the correct width.
- 5). Continue using the same process across all walls of the room, making sure the level is used on the first piece of beadboard in each corner to maintain an even installation. Pay particular attention to electrical outlets by removing sections of the beadboard progressively with a jigsaw until a perfect hole is created. Progress until all of the beadboard is fixed into position. Consider the addition of beadboard top molding for the perfect finish.
