How to Clean the Coconut Out of Its Shell
- 1). Preheat an oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 2). Place an ice pick or screwdriver into the eye of the coconut, and hit the top of the ice pick with a hammer to create a hole. Do this to all of the eyes of the coconut.
- 3). Pour the liquid through a fine sieve over a bowl or container to collect it for later use.
- 4). Place the coconut in the oven on the middle rack for 10 to 20 minutes, until the shell cracks.
- 5). Remove the coconut from the oven with oven mitts and place it on a heat-safe surface.
- 6). Crack the coconut open with a hammer. Tap it firmly to break it open.
- 7). Remove the shell by pulling it off of the coconut meat. If the coconut won't come out of the shell, use a paring knife to make score marks in it. Carefully pop out the chunks of coconut with the tip of the knife.
- 8). Peel the husk off of the coconut meat with a vegetable peeler.
