How to Adjust Air to a Pellet Stove
- 1). Scrape the burn pot and clean the air intake to remove carbon residue if the stove isn’t burning properly—there is a poor air-to-fuel mixture. Allow the stove to cool and use a vacuum cleaner to clear up the remnants.
- 2). Look for gasket leaks if smoke comes out of the vents. This means the air-to-fuel ratio is too rich and the draft is too low. Gaskets are found on the doors and on the lid. Replace them if they don’t look like they fit right. Make sure the doors are closed when using the pellet stove.
- 3). Look for a blocked flue, a blocked air inlet, ash in the air chamber under the burn pot, holes in the burn pot getting filled with ash or carbon and dirty fan blades. Clean the stove thoroughly and it will adjust the air to the stove’s predetermined requirements.
