    • 1). Take your dog to the veterinarian. A health issue or anxiety disorder may be the root of your dog's obsessive barking, and a qualified veterinarian is the best person to assess your dog and plan a course of treatment if such an issue is causing the problem.

    • 2). Teach your dog the "quiet" command. Interrupt your dog's barking by giving her a treat to sniff, telling her "quiet" at the same time. When she quiets down to inspect the treat, praise her and give her the treat. Repeat the throughout the day when she barks, slowly extending the length of time she is required to remain quiet before she gets the treat.

    • 3). Exercise your dog daily. A bored or under-exercised dog is more likely to bark. In addition to a daily walk of at least 30 minutes, you can play games of fetch in your fenced back yard, take your dog to an public dog park or attend agility classes, in which your dog will learn how to maneuver through an obstacle with your guidance.

    • 4). Socialize your dog. If your dog rarely goes anywhere other than your home or yard, his obsessive barking may be caused by a fear of unknown people, animals and situations. Arrange supervised play dates with owners of friendly dogs or enroll in a socialization or basic obedience class with other dogs and owners.

    • 5). Provide a safe and stimulating environment for your dog. If your dog must be left alone for several hours at a time, give her something to do so that she doesn't occupy herself with barking. Leave toys for your dog to play with; toys that can be stuffed with treats are especially helpful for entertaining a dog. Make sure that your dog has food, water and a safe, dry place to rest when she is left alone. If you're away all day, consider hiring a dog walker to give your dog a break from her solitude each day.
