Wrist Watch Altimeter - Three Ways You Reap Some Benefits By Using One

Watch altimeter data is very important to your survival if you spend much time away from civilization. Once you have a watch like this, you will start to really count on its information and predictive capabilities.

Here are the ways you can benefit from a watch altimeter:

* Predict incoming weather. This is a very useful aspect of having a wrist watch altimeter. The underlying data that drives the altimeter readings of course is barometric. That means that you can use the barometric pressure indicator in the watch to do weather prediction. Fast-moving wet weather events are preceded by rapidly moving barometric pressure changes. Slower moving weather and stable weather is indicated by coincidently slow moving barometric pressure changes.

This can be extremely helpful if you are hiking and are going to have to spend the night outside in the woods. Knowing what the weather will be when you don't have access to radio and Internet can be extremely valuable as a skill. It's not something that comes automatically with an altimeter watch. Although, there are some rudimentary weather predictive capabilities in the higher-end watches. Mostly though, you are going to have to learn how to interpret the barometric pressure readings that underlie the altimeter settings yourself.

* Verify GPS positioning data. If you were on a mountain in think you know your position from your GPS you may or may not be right. It is good to be able to have a correlating piece of data like the altitude at which your watch indicates you are at your disposal. You can take that information and look on a terrain chart and see if that matches up with for your GPS tells you are. God forbid, you don't have a GPS having this altitude information can be a lifesaver because it can tell you one point that you know within a ± 1 m that roughly correct.

* Plan the remaining part of your trip. If you know there's impending weather that could derail your trip, it is good to know it upfront rather than later. Especially in the winter where climate conditions can be treacherous and maybe even deadly, is almost essential that you have an altitude and barometric pressure indicator watch at your disposal in order to decide whether or not to go forward with your trip or not.

The information you receive from a watch altimeter function can be crucial to the successful outcome of a trip in the wilderness.
