I have been with my barber since he was in barber school.
We are friends who belong to the same fraternal society, so when he announced that he was going to barber school and needed people to practice on, I was on of the first in line.
His school focused on traditional barbering skills, one of which was shaving with a straight edged razor.
It took him a while to master the skill, but when he did, I thought that the straight edge shave was better than the electric shave I was getting at home.
I decided that I was going to go back to shaving that way myself, and started searching local stores for razors and shaving brushes.
I could not find them anywhere, so I turned to the internet and was able to find some fantastic shaving supplies.
My great-grandfather was a barber, and when I was little, he was still active in the trade.
After he retired, my grandparents inherited most of his old equipment, but most of that is long gone now.
Still, looking for those things for myself brought me a feeling of nostalgia, and I was excited to find whole shaving kits.
Of course, I went to my barber for recommendations, and together we were able to select something that was a perfect fit for me.
Unfortunately for him, I no longer require his shaving services, but for me, it is a return to something I did not even know that I would cherish.
