How to Set Up Wireless Camera Security Systems
A wireless camera security system can be purchased at many stores, online. These security surveillance systems can help you monitor your home and possessions while you're at work or school. This article will show you how to set up such security surveillance systems.
Steps
1
Decide why you want wireless camera security systems installed on your home. Front doors, back doors and driveways are some of the popular areas that need to be monitored. Other choices may include the living room, hallway and garage.
2
Just like wireless lighting, wireless home security cameras are not completely wireless. They will still need a wire for power. While some systems come with a plug in adapter to power each camera, most power wires will not go over 4 to 6 feet long. Your cameras should be kept within close proximity to power outlets. Professional installers may run electrical wires through your walls and conceal the power outlets and adapters in plug-in boxes.
3
Each home monitoring camera will need to be set to its own channel. Standard channels for wireless camera security systems are labeled A through D or 1 through 4. Cameras are usually mounted with screws through drill holes on walls.
4
Wireless camera receivers will be positioned next to the television or home theatre system. The receiver should be connected to the television using a cable that has a yellow, red and white connector on each end. Some systems can use an "S-video" connector and cable to connect to the television while some newer versions may have a HDMI connector. Regardless of the type of connector a receiver may have, it will all be powered by a plug in wall adapter. Link it with the receiver and plug it into the wall.
5
Adjust the receiver to channel A or 1 and turn on the television. The television may need to be set to Game, Video, or in some other mode designating the input jacks used. Check the user's manual of your television for more information.
6
The camera that was set to channel A or 1 should now be visible and can be viewed on the TV screen. Tilt or adjust the camera if needed to get the best view that you desire. Set the receiver to channel 2 or B and go over the steps with the camera that is set to 2 or B. Repeat with the other remaining cameras.
7
More tech-savvy users may connect the receiver to a VCR, DVR or computer. Digital video recorders can be used to connect the receiver to the computer. The video from the cameras can even be broadcasted on the internet with the use of video capture software. There are also lots of websites on the internet that can used to monitor your cameras online.
Tips & Warnings
Infra-red lights and wireless lighting can be used to make your cameras see in the dark. You may also use transparent domes to weatherproof your cameras if placed outdoors.
