Useful Truck Accessories to Make Life Easier and Safer

It's no wonder that the ubiquitous pickup truck is America's most popular vehicle. There isn't much it can't do, when you come to think about it. It can serve as a regular car or a means of shifting a heavy load between two places. That's why there's a healthy aftermarket in truck accessories. You can get just about anything to make your truck better or to do things easier.

In the old days, farmers loved the pickup truck, which is why they have stake holders in side rails. You could place long wooden stakes in the holes provided to heighten the sides and make it very convenient for carrying a large load of hay, for example. Farmers still do this occasionally, but most people who have a truck never even give a thought to why the holes are called stake holders. Now you know.

Stake holders have become extremely convenient as a place to attach tie downs. The tie downs are inserted into the holes and can be secured there with a couple of screws. They usually have large plastic plates too that cover the edges of the holes, leaving the tie downs looking very attractive and functional.

Tie downs come in various types and strengths. Retractable tie downs are popular, because as their name suggests, the ring retracts out of the way when not in use. Some retractable tie downs are gravity dropped, and some are spring loaded. They all work more or less the same way when in use, however. Toe downs can have cleats or rings for securing ropes or straps. They are readily available at place like Bull Ring truck accessories.

The bottom of a truck bed usually comes from the factory as a simple steel bed, all shiny and new. It doesn't usually stay that way for long, however. Small loads slide around when you corner and brake. It isn't too much of a problem until you start hauling heavy loads.

It is a good idea though to start out with a non-skid mat on the truck bed. This is a mat made from material that helps to prevent things sliding around, and it also helps to protect that nice shiny floor. It can significantly add to the overall safety of driving a loaded truck, which is why every pickup truck should have one fitted.

A sturdy cargo net is a very useful item if you carry light loads. It can help to prevent anything from being blown out of the bed as you drive at higher speeds. Don't see the cargo net as something to secure your load with, but rather as a means of preventing things from blowing away.
