How to Replace the Solenoid for a 1990 Toyota Pickup Truck
- 1). Disconnect the negative battery cable, using a wrench to loosen the cable clamp's retainer bolt. Place the wheel chocks behind the Toyota pickup's back tires.
- 2). Raise the driver's side of the front of the pickup with the automobile jack and place a jack stand under the frame rail near the jacking point. Raise the jack stand up to the frame of the truck.
- 3). Mark the wires on the starter, using the masking tape and marker. Disconnect the wires, using a wrench to remove the retaining nuts.
- 4). Remove the mounting bolts from the starter and pull the starter away from the engine. Remove the retaining screws holding the solenoid on the starter. Pull the solenoid off and put the new one in place. Secure it with the screws and tighten them with the screwdriver.
- 5). Put the starter back on the engine and tighten the bolts with the socket and ratchet. Connect the wires to the starter and tighten the nuts with the wrench. Remove the jack stand from under the truck.
- 6). Lower the truck back to the ground and reconnect the battery terminal. Tighten the terminal with a wrench.
