How To Repair Moen Cartridge Faucets
- 1). Turn off the water by closing the valves under the sink.
- 2). Loosen the handle screw located either on the side of the handle or on the top. Most Moen faucets use an Allen head screw on the handle, but a Phillips head screw is also sometimes used.
- 3). Slide the handle off. Unscrew the bonnet cap underneath the handle (if there is one) with a pair of channel lock pliers. Remove this bonnet cap and then pull out the clip around the cartridge with the pliers. All that remains is the cartridge.
- 4). Slide the cartridge out of the faucet head and replace it with a new Moen replacement cartridge made for the same model faucet.
- 5). Replace the bonnet cap and tighten it by hand (if necessary) and then insert the clip in the faucet. Then put the handle back on the cartridge stem and tighten up the retaining screw with the Allen wrench or Phillips head screwdriver.
