Gaining muscle is actually very simple: you stress the muscles you have until they tear just a little bit, let them relax and heal and they will increase their mass so as to avoid future injury.
The trick of it is to do controlled stressing so as not to cause actual injury and to build muscles where you want them rather than where the body wants them.
The easiest way to build muscle is to pit your muscles groups against others of you muscle groups.
Push your hands together as hard as you can and you will feel the muscles straining to be the dominant muscles in the exercise.
While they are straining they are stressing and thus beginning to build more muscle tissue.
A controlled way to accomplish the same result is to use a stack machine.
These pieces of equipment allow you to select a set amount of weight to set your muscles against so that you have control over how much stress your body sustains and where exactly where the stress is found.
The machines also have the advantage of having been used millions of times by others so you can be sure they will do what they purport to do for you.
Free weights are another muscle building apparatus that has been tried and proven effective over the years.
Unlike machines the free weights require a spotter or someone to be sure that you don't drop the equipment on yourself and do yourself serious bodily harm.
They have the advantage of being readily available in most gym settings, and most gyms have employees whose job it is to be spotter for patrons.
Regardless of how you plan to do your exercises to gain muscle it is important to remember that it isn't massive amounts of weight that builds the muscles but massive numbers of repetitions using lower weights.
As you strain against the resistance whether it is weights in a machine or free weights you want to sustain only a little damage to be repaired in each session.
Thus can you build the ripped abs you are looking for with a minimum of pain.
Building muscle in your body is an admirable goal for any person, male or female.
Keep in mind your body type and set your goals rationally within the possibilities that you can achieve.
A body that is built symmetrically is the way to go.
