How to Polish a Glass Cooktop

    • 1). Wait for the glass stove top to cool before attempting to clean and polish it. Many stoves have an indicator light that tells you when the surface is hot. Allow at least 30 minutes after the indicator light shuts off before cleaning.

    • 2). Squirt a small amount -- about the size of a dollar coin -- of a commercial glass top cleaner onto the stove surface. Many stoves come with a sample of cleaner from the manufacturer; use the brand recommended. If you cannot find the brand at your store, any commercial cleaner formulated for glass or ceramic top stoves is acceptable.

    • 3). Spread the cleaner on the glass top with your fingers to form a thin layer over the surface. Allow the cleaner to sit on the stove for about a minute. It dries to a thick, white consistency.

    • 4). Polish the glass top stove with a soft cleaning cloth. Some cleaners state a damp cloth is necessary; follow the directions on the label. Use circular motions to clean and polish the surface. It may be necessary to wrap the cloth around your fingertip to thoroughly clean the corners of the surface. Rub harder in areas that feel rough in order to remove the debris.

    • 5). Switch to a clean section of the cloth to remove any remaining cleaner. Wipe the cloth over the entire surface until all the cleaner is gone. This leaves the surface looking shiny and clean, and it provides a protective coating. Repeat the method if any debris remains.
