How to Install a Craftsman LT1000 Lawn Tractor Blade
- 1). Move the tractor to a level location. Disconnect the battery cables from the battery terminals beginning with the "neg" (black) cable.
- 2). Raise the mower deck to the highest "up" position so that you have adequate space to access the cutting blades. Use caution when moving around the blades, even dull blades can cut you.
- 3). Remove the hex bolt, lock washer and flat washer that secure the blade to the mandrel assembly. The mandrel assembly is bolted to the mower deck from above. Clean the visible portion of the mandrel assembly once the blade is removed with a damp rag.
- 4). Install a new (or resharpened) blade onto the mandrel assembly and attach with the hex nut. The trailing edge of the blade should face "up" towards the mower deck. The order of assembly is blade, flat washer, lock washer and the hex nut.
- 5). Torque the hex nut to between 30 and 35 foot pounds of torque. Do not over tighten. Reattach the battery cables to their respective terminals.
