How to Make Natural Detergent
- 1). Pour 4 cups of water into a pot and turn the burner on high.
- 2). Use a knife to shave a bar of soap. The soap can be any brand of natural soap you can buy at a health food store, or even soap you made yourself. Soaps made without a lot of detergents or chemicals are best. Let the shavings fall into the water as the temperature rises. Stir the pot until the soap dissolves. Keep the water from actually boiling. When the soap has dissolved, remove the pot from the burner.
- 3). Pour 3 gallons of tap water into the 5-gallon bucket. It does not have to be warm. Add the water from the pot to the bucket as well. Stir both together.
- 4). Add one cup of washing soda, which should be available at your grocery store, and 1/2 cup of Borax to the water in the bucket and stir. Put the lid on the bucket and let the mixture cool overnight.
- 5). Use 1 cup of the natural detergent for each load of wash. Keep the lid tightly closed when not in use.
