Top Tips for Finding a Good Wedding Photographer

Finding a good photographer is an essential part of your wedding, and some couples despair and worry about making the wrong choice.
However, as with most things, it is easy once you know how.
I have been a professional wedding photographer (in Worcestershire) for over 12 years, and here are my top tips for finding the right one for you.
Firstly, consider your budget.
If you want a professional photographer, which I obviously would highly recommend, you are looking in the region of £500 upwards for a basic coverage.
You may get a bit of a discount if you are getting married out of season, or on a week day, but not much.
Anyone charging less than this is almost certainly not a professional, and just supplementing their main income.
If your budget won't stretch this far I would recommend a friend or family member rather than wasting your money.
Next it is vital to actually meet the photographer who will be at your wedding.
Some larger companies will allocate you someone, but you will not know who until the last minute.
You will be spending a lot of time on the day with your photographer, you need to ensure that you get on well with them and they know what you need them to do.
A good photographer would want to meet you anyway to understand what sort of style and coverage you want Ask your photographer is they would be prepared to meet up before the wedding to discuss exactly what will happen on the day.
I like to meet all of my couples at their chosen venue about a month before.
This gives us a chance to have a walk round together, find great spots for photographs, and go through the family tree/ guest list.
I feel that this is an important run-through of the day, and all good photographers should be happy to do this with you.
Decide what style of photography you are after - would you like a relaxed, informal approach, or a more traditional look? Make sure that the sample photographs that you see are in the same style that you like.
Photography is an art, and any photographer that says they can change their style to suit you is lying.
So, unfortunately, even if you really like the person, don't book on the promise that your photographs will be drastically different from the samples.
One of the best methods of finding somebody is through recommendation by friends, but always ask to see their wedding album first, and go through the steps above.
Just because they were thrilled with their photographer, it doesn't mean that you will be!
