How to Make a Ninja Star for a Cosplay

    • 1). Create a pattern for your ninja star. You can do this by tracing an actual star on paper, by printing out a pattern from the computer or by measuring and drawing a design with a ruler. Ninja stars come in many designs, so you can be creative with your pattern. A simple four-point star is a basic pattern. Ninja stars can be made in any size, but 4 inches across is a good size for an ordinary ninja star.

    • 2). Cut out your pattern. Trace the pattern onto a sheet of paper. Make an identical pattern on another sheet of paper that is 1/4 inch smaller than the original pattern on all sides. Cut out the second pattern.

    • 3). Trace the smaller star onto a piece of corrugated cardboard twice and cut out the shapes. You need two of the small stars.

    • 4). Trace the larger star onto a piece of thin cardboard and cut out the shape. You need one large star.

    • 5). Glue the stars together with hot glue, with the large star between the two small stars. Each of the small stars must be exactly in the middle of the large star.

    • 6). When the glue has dried, carefully fill in the gaps between the edges of the small stars and the surface of the large star with hot glue so that it makes a smooth seam between the two. This will give the illusion of the star tapering to a point and having a smooth surface, like a real metal star would.

    • 7). Wait for the glue to dry completely, then paint your star with the silver spray paint. You may need several coats.

    • 8). Wait for the paint to dry completely. Thin some black model paint with the paint thinner by pouring a dime-sized amount of each on a paper plate and mixing them carefully. Use a small, old paintbrush to paint the black model paint across each side of the star, going in one direction only. The paint should be thin and streaky, giving the illusion of worn metal. Wait for one side of the star to dry before painting the other side.

    • 9). Add embellishments, like plastic jewels, designs, patterns or words if desired.
