The Ace/Henkel "Helpful" Scholarship Program

• Scholarships awarded through the Ace/Henkel "Helpful" Scholarship Program go to consumers or their children. Applicants who are high school seniors or enrolled in a four-year accredited, nonprofit college or university are eligible if they have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Another requirement is a personal statement about how the applicant provides "helpfulness" to the community. This statement needs a supporting reference as verification. The application also includes an essay about helpfulness to the community. Awarding of the scholarship also takes into account the applicant's standardized test scores, high school or college class rank and extracurricular activities.
  
  

McEldowney Academic Scholarship Fund

• Established in 2004, the McEldowney Academic Scholarship Fund honors the late Richard McEldowney (1946 to 2003) of Blair County, Pennsylvania. McEldowney served his community in many ways, as a youth football coach, councilman, United Way member and through social clubs and service groups. His belief in the importance of education inspired the creation of this scholarship in his memory by family and friends. Ace Hardware is among the contributors to the Fund. The scholarship is open to students of all Blair County high schools who plan to pursue a college or university degree.
  
  

The Howard and Anne Elsberry Opportunity In Business Scholarship

• Missouri's Truman State University offers the Howard and Anne Elsberry Opportunity in Business scholarship in honor of Westlake Ace Hardware. Dating back to 1905, Westlake Hardware opened in Huntsville with service to the community as its core philosophy. The scholarship is for financially needy business administration majors who demonstrate leadership qualities and the same philosophy of service to the community for which the scholarship stands. Westlake Ace Hardware employees and dependents receive preference.
  
  

The Johnson County Extension Master Gardener Tour Scholarship Fund

• In 2010, Westlake Ace Hardware donated the grand prize of a $700 Husqvarna rear tine rototiller to the Johnson County Extension Master Gardener Tour Scholarship Fund. The public garden tour takes place every other year and supports $3,000 in annual scholarships, according to 2010 figures. The Fund provides three scholarships, one for a Kansas State University horticulture student and two for students of Johnson County Community College.
