How to Get Grass Green Without Water
- 1). Test the soil's pH with the help of a pH testing kit from a garden center. Carefully follow the instructions on the packaging to get an accurate reading of the pH level of your soil. Lawns grow best in a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5. A reading below 6.0 will require an application of lime, while a reading above 7.5 will require sulfur.
- 2). Locate the distribution settings for "drop-spreader" on the package of lime or sulfur, depending on the need of your lawn.
- 3). Change the setting on your drop spreader's dial to fit the instructions on the packaging of either the lime or sulfur.
- 4). Fill the drop spreader's hopper with the lime or sulfur powder.
- 5). Release the lever on the drop spreader so the sulfur or lime can flow and walk around the perimeter of the lawn.
- 6). Walk back and forth across the remainder of the lawn with slightly overlapping passes until the lime or sulfur has been evenly dispersed throughout the lawn. The application of lime or sulfur will adjust the pH of the soil to the proper level, allowing the grass to grow greener and healthier.
