With an estimated 350,000 to 500,000 visitors each year, Fraser Island day tours have become more popular in the recent decades.
Here's why.
The Creation of Fraser Early settlers of Fraser, the Butchulla people, believed that the island itself is a goddess (you would too once you see how amazing it is).
Her name is K'gari and she came down from the heavens to make earth's nature.
After K'gari finished her work, she realised that earth was the most beautiful place created.
She pleaded the gods to let her stay forever.
She was not allowed to stay in her spirit form so K'gari was changed into an island.
The Last Dingoes Dingoes in Fraser are believed to be the purest strains of their species.
The island has become their sanctuary for survival.
These endangered wild dogs also played a huge part in the Aborigine culture.
Dingoes were tamed by early tribes to ward off evil spirits from their territories.
Tribe owners sleep beside them to keep them warm at night.
In fact, dingoes are depicted on some rock carvings and paintings.
The Living Sand Dune Another mystery of the Island is a large sand dune that continues to increase in size.
It's popularly known as the Hammerstone Sandblow.
The sand is made up of grains of quartz and other minerals.
The parabolic dunes of Fraser Island, including Hammerstone, is said to move at the rate of 1 to 2 metres and getting to grow at the height of 244 metres each year.
There is only a matter of time until it covers Lake Wabby.
Rainbow Coloured Cliffs Who would've thought that rainbow coloured sand cliffs exist? It's one of the key attractions in Fraser Island.
It's a must see spectacle.
The so-called Pinnacles have formed over hundreds of thousands of years.
According to tales of Butchulla tribe, a rainbow serpent created the sand formations.
It tells the story of Wuru who was engaged to another man but fell in love with Wiberigan (rainbow).
Her fiance, Winyer, threatened to take revenge.
One day, Winyer saw Wuru alone and chased her with a boomerang.
Wuru called for help so Wiberigan stood in front of her.
The boomerang shattered Wiberigan and all his colours spilled onto the cliffs.
Jewel of Fraser Island Even with seawater surrounding the island, Fraser supports over 100 forms of freshwater - some of the cleanest in the world.
Amongst numerous streams and tributaries, Lake McKenzie is considered the island's jewel.
Lake McKenzie is a perched lake formed for over thousands of years.
The lake is surrounded by white mineral-rich sands.
Its crystal clear waters sit on top of an impervious base of organic matter and sand.
Magical Rainforest Fraser Island is the only place on earth where rainforests grow in sand.
It's bewildering where plants get their essential nutrients.
Imagine rare and ancient ferns, towering pines, eucalyptus forests, profusion of flowers and swamp vegetation.
It was later found out that naturally occurring mycorrhizal fungi is present in the sand releasing nutrients for plant life.
Along with healthy sea breeze, vegetation in the island can grow to their fullest.
