The Single-Legged Dead Lift is a Great Warm-Up and Exercise
Your legs are the part of your body that requires both endurance and strength.
It requires to be warmed up properly and to be worked out consistently.
When you warm up and exercise your legs, you do warm up and work out the rest of your body.
Squats, which many consider to be the king of all the power lifting lifts, works on many other parts of the bodies and gets our metabolism going more so than probably any other exercise.
When we get our legs injured, our entire workouts get impacted in a negative way.
Here is an exercise that not only warm up the legs but it gives it a great workout.
The single leg dead-lift or the one-legged dead-lift is one of those rare movements that can be used to warm-up the legs (for squats) and as an exercise.
It is a great movement that works on various parts of the leg and it hits on the stabilizer muscles and nerves of the leg.
What more can you ask for? It is very similar to the Romanian dead lift (for those who do that lift).
But, you can use a dumb bell (or even no weights) instead of a barbell.
Here is how you do it.
First, keep you left leg straight and touch the floor by moving the right leg backwards.
When you are touching the floor, your right leg should be in the air and parallel with the floor (and perpendicular to your left leg).
Go slowly when you go down and slowly when you go up.
Go down in about 6-7 seconds; go up in about 6-7 seconds.
Do this about 7-10 times on your left leg.
Also, keep your shoulder steady and square (no rotation).
Keep your abdominals tight by flexing your hips during the entire movement.
This is the optimal way to perform this movement.
Do this with your right leg also.
When you get stronger (which should not be long), you can use a light dumb bell when performing this exercise.
If you are keeping your left leg on the ground, place the dumb bell by your left leg (and vice-versa for your right leg).
After doing this movement, you will feel your legs being warmed-up.
This is an excellent way to get ready for squats.
You will also notice you stabilizing muscles and nerves on your legs get a terrific workout.
Try this single leg dead-lift.
It will be great for your legs and for your physical fitness routine.
