Allopathy:

Allopathy- allopath- dissimilar, heterogenous pathos- suffering, disease

A method of treating disease with remedies that produce effect different from those caused by the disease itself.

Allopathic medicine is more a system of disease treatment. It is about correcting imbalances by forcing the body back to the normal.

EXAMPLE: Surgery removes diseased or broken parts; Drugs correct a hormone balance by supplying the appropriate hormones or cause changes that will correct a blood pressure problem.

Advantages of allopathic medicine are that it has tool to keep people alive so that they may then be able to regain their health. It is brilliant for emergency situations, accidents. It is also great for diagnosing disease state. (In fact in some parts of the world homeopathic practitioners are forbidden by law to make medical diagnosis).

Rationale of Allopathy:
  • In allopathy materialistic approach about life,
  • generalization – disease diagnosis on the basis of common system of that disease.
  • Local concept of disease.
  • Material causes of disease- material cause such as bacteria viruses are the cause of disease.
  • In allopathy- specific medicine for specific disease.
  • Drug proving- animal and laboratory experimentation.
  • In allopathy- application of massive doses of different medicines and mixtures.
  • Allopathy- not having any fixed principle
  • Classification of disease on the basis of common symptoms of disease.
  • Classification- surgical, dynamic- acute, chronic.
  • Allopathy treats only symptoms of disease.
  • Allopathy can suppreses & controls symptoms.
  • In allopathy – disease process can persists, complaints can recur again.
  • Antibiotic & analgesics cause serious side effects.
  • Allopathy does not enhance immunity.
  • Risk- The risk involved in Allopathy is that healthy cells are also destroyed along with the diseased cells. Even those untrained in Allopathy may be aware of this aspect and some may have actually experienced this first hand.

Homeopathy:

Homoeopathy- homoeos- similar , alike and pathos- suffering , disease.

A method of treating disease with remedies that produce effect similar to those caused by the disease itself.

Homeopathic medicine is based on a philosophy of healthcare. It also seeks to find the balance that body, and is mostly about getting people back to optimal health.

In Homeopathic medicine, diagnoses are made based on what the body is trying to do.

Example: Fever tells us that there are pathogens present, and the heat of the fever is to resolve the infection by suppressing the fever we are stopping the body from doing its job. If the body is not strong enough, the fever will be ineffectual, and homeopathic medicine practitioners will help the body to have a good strong, but short fever so that the infection is resolved. In allopathic medicine, antibiotics are given to kill the pathogens and do the body's job for it.

Advantages of homeopathic medicine are that it is cheap and is empowering to the patient. It recognizes that not everyone fits the "norms" and allows for individual differences. It helps people regain health, and is not restricted to treating disease.

Rationale of Homeopathy:
  • Homoeopathy appreciates the dynamic concept of life,
  • Individualization of the patient is important in homoeopathy, no 2 persons are alike not even twins so remedy of different individuals cannot be same.
  • Holistic concept of disease- mental, emotional, physical symptoms taking in to consideration.
  • Dynamic causes of disease- dynamic derangement of vital force.
  • In homoeopathy- individual remedy for individual patient
  • Drug proving – on healthy human being
  • In homoeopathy – application of one simple, single medicine at a time
  • Homoeopathy is based on fixed principle- law of cure, similia similibus curanter
  • Classification of disease on the basis of uncommon peculiar symptom of patient.
  • Classification – acute, subacute, chronic.
  • In homoeopathy- elimination of root cause of disease.
  • Medicine allow the disease to VENT.
  • CURE comprehensive, complete & permanent.
  • Remedies uses potentised , dynamic form, natural remedies that are safe
  • Homoeopathy boosts immunity & correct faulty metabolism.

History:

Historical evidence suggests that power players, as early as the founding of The American Medical Association, have used the heavy hand of government to squelch homeopathic physicians. Regulations and licensure were used to stifle the growth of homeopathy by narrowly restricting which schools can produce new doctors and what their curriculum must teach. Today, students in India after graduating in homeopathy medicine go for Allopathic medicine crash courses at the end of this they are allowed to practice allopathic medicine.

General difference in Design of treatment:

The large majority of physicians in India practice allopathic medicine very few people outside the healthcare industry could define the term, its practice is ubiquitous and almost fully internalized by the general public. An example for this is allopathic treatment would include elevating a sprained ankle and wrapping the afflicted area in ice in order to reduce swelling. Bandages may also be used to prevent use of the joints. Swelling, the symptom, is attacked instead of injury itself.

Homeopathy takes the exact opposite approach that the swelling is the body's natural healing method. When tendons, ligaments and muscles are stressed extra blood rushes to the area to repair the damage. As ugly and frightening as a swollen ankle may look, it is what is necessary to heal the body properly. Efforts taken to reduce swelling can increase healing time and may cause long term damage. Over the next few days, a homeopath recommend adding heat and light exercise to the sprained ankle to help increase blood flow, quite the opposite advice from the allopath.

The debate between allopathy and homeopathy seems worthy in a marketplace of ideas. But both the fields have their pros and cons.

Homeopathy and allopathy medicines, although having very different philosophies, works well together. For instance, someone who is taking antibiotics can also be treated by homeopath so that the antibiotics have less adverse effects, and the body is strengthened so that it is not susceptible to infections in future. (There are times when antibiotics are absolutely essential for saving lives).

People undergoing cancer treatment can have allopathic treatment like surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and at the same time the traditional practitioner can treat them to reduce the side effects of the cancer treatment, or prepare them for surgery.

Allopathic medicine works best when there is clear pathology, whereas homeopathic medicine works well even when people are just "out of sorts" and there is no clear pathology just the course of treatment is long.
