5 Communication Tips For Couples

103 12
Relationships require constant commitment from both sides in order to preserve the strength of that relationship.
Communication, more importantly, how you communicate as a couple is what defines most relationships.
Having mutual respect for each other's opinions and thoughts, as well as the open mindedness to listen to your partner can be the difference between a successful relationship, and one that falters after the honeymoon phase.
Here are 5 communication tips that every couple should know.
1.
Make sure your partner is ready to communicate and hear what you have to say.
Often times, partners come home from a long day at work and can just shut down because they are stressed out and tired.
Make the time to give each other some personal space so that both of you can relax and clear your minds.
Then make sure both of you are ready to talk, not over dinner or while watching TV, but really sit down and hear what you both have to say.
2.
Complain nicely.
Couples get into the routine of taking each other for granted after a while, and complaining can be a major drawback to a relationship.
Instead of constantly nagging, try being constructive and supportive to your partner.
It makes the day that much nicer, and that much more worth it for your partner to listen to you if you do it with a smile and serious tone.
3.
Ask for you what you want.
Never say that you always have to tell your partner what to do.
Instead, regular dialog can help both sides understand what each person wants in a relationship.
This takes away the need for one side to constantly ask for what they want.
With good communication, you can always remind each other what it is your looking for in a relationship and do it on positive terms.
4.
Give feedback and acknowledgment.
Take the time to show each other have you have been noticing their efforts.
Whether it's working or not, any effort is good effort.
Talk about it and see what is working so far and what is not.
5.
Keep at it.
Keep having conversations.
It's how you resolve things in a proactive manner.
And it's also how you get to know each other on a deeper level.
Talk face to face in private about anything: interests, your week, worries, troubles, and things you would like to work at.
Ask questions like it's your first date.
Communication means talking and talking and talking.
