A Little About Grenada
Grenada, often called "The Isle of Spice' is located in the Caribbean.
It is said that everywhere you travel within this country, you will be able to smell the sweet combination of the spices.
Spices such as nutmeg, cloves and turmeric, just to name a few, are a vital part of the island's economy.
In fact it is the leader in producing several spices in the world.
The Amerindians people first occupied it and Christopher Columbus named it Conception, as he sailed by it.
Several years later, the British tried to take possession of it, but the Amerindians fought them off.
However, in 1650 the French also sought possession of it, by entreating the occupants with gifts.
The gifts were welcome, but the reason for the gifts were rejected and thus begun the battle with the French.
As the battle raged, the Amerindians, not wanting to be ruled by other, leaped to their deaths over a cliff that is presently called Leaper's Hill.
This valuable land of 120 square miles has been fought over by many and surprisingly, even in the 1980's there was a battle for it to become a socialist state connected to its neighboring country, Cuba and Russia.
The battle resulted in the killing of Maurice Bishop, who was the Prime Minister at that time.
This three-island state whose capital is Saint George's is a British colony.
Grenada was awarded to the British in 1783 under the Treaty of Versailles.
The Treaty of Versailles is a peace agreement, which was signed by several countries after World War one in 1918.
