A resume is basically a summary about one's educational background, work experiences and basic personal information.
It represents your background and professional skills.

It is good to take help from someone at your educational institution or someone who is experienced.
But don't try to take help from people who have not been applying for new jobs since long because the requirements for resume changes after every few years.
May be something, which was acceptable at their times, would have gone completely out of fashion these days.
