Tips For Easy Dessert in Your Slow Cooker

Why not make dessert in your slow cooker? It is easy and almost impossible to "flop.
" So, I have been experimenting a little and came up with a few tips to help you.
Tips for dessert in the low cooker:
  • Dessert that you would normally boil on top of the stove works very well
  • You have to add the liquid for the sauce to the pot and leave it on for at least 30 minutes to make sure it is hot
  • Desserts cook surprisingly fast and you should not let it cook for more than double the time of the normal recipe before you check it.
  • Go slow on spices such as ginger and cinnamon as they tend to be overpowering in a slow cooker dessert
  • Use only about 3/4 of the water you would normally have used as none boils off
  • If you have to add any butter to the liquid it is best to melt the butter first
  • Remember that sugar can cool down your liquid a lot so make sure you add it from the start, when you start heating your liquid
  • Do not open your pot too soon as it may cause the dessert to fall flat like a cake in an oven that has been opened too soon.
Apart from these changes you can basically make any cooked or baked dessert in a slow cooker.
You may have to experiment a little with your favorite dessert recipe, but it is well worth the effort.
I find that if I do the dessert like this it allows me to give all my attention to the rest of the meal.
Here is a recipe for dessert that I have already perfected for the slow cooker: Ingredients for the sauce:
  • 2 Cups of boiling water
  • 1 Cup sugar
Method: Place the sugar and boiling water in the slow cooker.
Turn it on the highest setting an leave for at least 30 minutes with the lid on Ingredients for the dough:

  • 1 Teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/3 Cup milk
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 Tablespoon butter
  • 1 Teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 Teaspoon powdered ginger
Method:
  1. Melt the butter and mix it with the syrup

  3. Add the egg and stir well
  4. Add the rest of the dry ingredients alternatively with the baking soda dissolved in the milk.
  5. Spoon the mixture into the hot sauce
  6. Cover the slow cooker and let it cook for 11/4 hour until done and browned.
