Comparing Regimens for Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathic Pain
Comparing Regimens for Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathic Pain
This is the first known study comparing duloxetine monotherapy, pregabalin monotherapy and duloxetine plus gabapentin as treatment for DPNP. For patients with DPNP who had been previously and unsuccessfully treated with gabapentin, switching to any of these treatment regimens was generally safe and tolerable. Although the TEAE profile for each treatment varied, each profile was consistent with previous reports for duloxetine, pregabalin and gabapentin in patients with DPNP. Further, the safety findings in this study were consistent with findings in clinical practice regarding the addition of duloxetine to gabapentin. The study results are consistent with current treatment recommendations for DPNP, and may be useful in assisting physicians and patients in treatment decision-making.
