    Scarecrow

    • This costume is perfect for a preschooler or kindergartner. Begin with a pair of jeans, a flannel shirt and a straw hat. Cut pieces of yellow felt about six inches wide and a foot long. Cut the felt on the short end about halfway up, every half inch or so. This will create a yellow felt fringe of sorts. Glue the fringe to the inside of the edge of the hat, inside the cuffs of the shirt and coming out of the front opening of the shirt and pockets of the pants. Finish with some simple makeup, such as a black nose and freckles.

    Astronaut

    • Begin by finding a set of coveralls, such as mechanics clothing, in a thrift store. Find colorful patches to apply to the shoulders and chest or use permanent markers to draw them on. Add a bright metallic belt. Cover a motorcycle helmet with foil and glue on an inexpensive stalk microphone. Add boots covered in foil.

    Ballerina

    • Begin with a purchased leotard and tights set. Get a matching piece of tulle or netting, one yard long and 45 inches wide. Fold the netting along the long edge, making a double layer 45 inches long. Lay out a piece of wide ribbon about 36 inches long and sew or glue the folded edge of the netting to the ribbon, avoiding one foot of each end. You will have to gather the netting to fit it onto the ribbon. Tie the ribbon around your ballerina's waist to create her tutu skirt and add an inexpensive pair of ballet slippers.
